Emulation

For my emulation assignment I chose to emulate Georgia O'keeffe's work. I like the way she painted her flowers so they weren't so life like and shape but instead she focused on color and texture. Throughout the year I also have been doing a lot of nature photography and a lot of work already along the same line as Georgia O'keeffe's work. I think it will bring my work to the next level if I actually have someone's painting I am trying to emulate. Also, this will continue my work to have a cohesive feel.

My Photography - Independent

Just a continuation of some of the stuff I was working on last semester. I took a lot of pictures of nature and looked for colorful plants or something with an interesting look. Now that the seasons are changing there are so many pretty colors. Last semester for my independent I focused on color with plants and made a gradual change with one picture, I haven't done it with these but I might do that with a few because the color on some of these are very pretty.

Poetry Image Work

Farm Country
By: Mary Oliver

I have sharpened my knives, I have
Put on the heavy apron.

Maybe you think life is chicken soup, served
In blue willow-pattern bowls.

I have put on my boots and opened
The kitchen door and stepped out

Into the sunshine. I have crossed the lawn,

The hen house.

I liked this poem because when I read it, images immediately came to mind. I think I could show these images very clearly and scene for scene. I am excited to start this!

Words > Image

For this assignment we are dealing with homophones. Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings and are spelled different ways. For this homophone assignment I will be making a diptic of the two words that sound the same way. The words I am using for this assignment are "Wax" and "Whacks". I will be doing this digitally so I can see the color. For my image of "wax", I will have someone hold a candle and let it melt on their hands. I will also just drip wax on their hands to watch it dry in cool patterns, then take the picture up close with the background blurred so its just focused on the hands. For "whacks", I will be taking a picture of someone with a baseball bat or tennis racket running up behind someone who is just standing, asking like they are going to hit them from behind. I am going to try and make this as realistic as possible and make the persons facial expression look like their really going to hit them hard. I will then put the two images next to each other to create a diptic.
